Ronald Mckinney is a published illustrator that works primarily with graphite, charcoal, and digital painting. He was born in Virginia and spent various years traveling as a child, eventually finding residence in Shreveport, Louisiana. The developmental years of growing up in different environments influenced Ronald's current work.
Ronald received his BFA in Fine Arts from Louisiana Tech University School of Design in 2022 with a concentration in illustration. After graduating, he continues creating work for his Light of the World project, where he explores the idea of storytelling using various people and scenarios in the Bible. Ronald also continues to pursue creating narratives through concept art, graphic novels, and illustrations that often have an educational experience. Ronald’s style is influenced by the dynamic rendering of light and dark to create cinematic illustrated narratives. There are also strong influences of comic art, manga, and anime in his work. He currently serves a Visual Arts Instructor at I.A. Lewis.
Ronald has exhibited his work in Ruston, Monroe, and Shreveport. He has participated in several conference presentations involving both artistry and STEM research. Recently Ronald participated in the Louisiana Academic Summit to present “Building Interdisciplinary Teams and Empowering Students to Impact their Community.” Ronald has also received multiple awards through university exhibitions. He currently has work featured at the Louisiana Museum of Science and Art.
